A Sense of Recognition

Environmental Sustainability is crucial to maintaining life on earth. Building a more sustainable future takes a community of people to achieve. For over 30 years, nations have been striving to work together to preserve the environment by tackling issues in areas such as carbon emissions, desertification, organic pollutants, and biodiversity.

In this original poem, the speaker reveals the fragility of earth through personification and descriptive writing. The speaker also compares the earth to a puzzle. Everything on earth must be connected together in order to properly function. Finally, the speaker hints at the importance of protecting the environment as life on earth depends on intact and healthy ecosystems.

Pieces connected,
Locked together like no other.

I peered out the window,
The puzzle was untouched
Left in a pristine state
As if no one dared to defy its authority.

The puzzle did not speak its story
Rather it showed you physically
With all its might
Its struggles,
And inevitable dark future.

Amidst the morning shine,
I sensed the puzzle revealing to me
Its glorious power.

Amidst the darkness of its sleepy hours,
I felt the puzzle crying to me.
With streams upon streams of water
flooding the land,
It revealed to me
Its unfathomable

The puzzle can live without me
Yet I cannot live without the puzzle.
