Sleet

Sleet

Wading through the trees

Crunching the sleet

Remember when we

Met in the street?

Your eyes glowed a soft purple

Hazel hair blowing in the wind

Your smile showed off your dimples

But didn’t reach within

Wading through the trees

Crunching the sleet

Remember when we

Burned in the heat?

We ran far until your fingers

Slipped like water and my hands were a sieve

I struggled for your touch that lingered

But you refused to live

Memories start to dance

Crunching the sleet

Was that the last chance

We had to meet?

Tears dapple the February snow

My heartbeat won’t ever slow

Why did you have to go?

There was so much we didn’t know

There was so much you never knew

Crunching the sleet

I love you

But is it too late?

“Happy Valentine’s Day”

As I lay flowers across your grave

Those are the words I say

To you, the one who I couldn’t save
